Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream & Eye Cream

The new Hydro Boost line from Neutrogena is  first for the brand, a product brought  to us from the Asian market.

These  are lightweight gel-creams  that pack moisture into a light formula, utilizing purified  hyaluronic acid to give skin hydration.

For  face,  the moisturizer comes in  regular ( Water Gel)  and Extra Dry Skin Gel- Cream.  I had the extra dry to try which worried me a little as I have normal skin right now that's been a little breakout prone with heavier moisture when I've tried. But I gave it a shot and found that the lightweight claim is very true. It glides on easily , sinks in fast and you don't feel  any residue or tackiness . It's barely there . But after its on  you realize your skin  feels good, soft and  hydrated but not overly so. The next morning my skin looked nicely plumped. I will say I am not sure that this would be enough moisture for extra dry skin. Maybe just  dry or normal to dry.

The eye gel -cream  felt/worked much the same . At first I thought it was so  light feeling that how could this possibly work ? But I realized that my eyes don't feel as dry as they usually do , so there must be something going on here. This  is a nice one to use especially in AM as it will work well under makeup  without waiting for it to set in.

For those who need moisture but want lightness, these do just that.  Note that these do have fragrance if you have issues with that. It's not very strong  but it's there.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost range is available now and retail is 18.99 each at their website. Drugstore/Target prices may vary.

Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen

I've had a few Twitter convos about favorite sunscreens and I always mention Neutrogena's Pure & Free Baby.

Why ?  It's light ,  as light as their Ultra Sheer I think. It has high physical SPF . I  use and like many chemical blockers, but prefer physical when I can. It's an SPF that should work for most,  if it's good enough for baby skin  and last,  it's easily available. Sometime people ask about all natural sunscreens and I can rec those as well, but I still mention this one. Not everyone lives near a Whole Foods, or organic store. I don't but I have a drugstore, several of them.

Pure & Free Baby comes in a body formula as well as one for faces that says it is "tear free".

Looking to stock up this weekend ?   Walgreens and CVS has all Neutrogena Buy 1 Get One 50 % through  Saturday the 5th.

Also through July 31st, Neutrogena is once again  donating an SPF product to a family in need for everyone purchased. You can read more about that here

Happy July 4th to all those in the US. Hope everyone has a wonderful  holiday weekend.

Neutrogena Beach Defense & Ultra Sheer Face & Body Sunscreen Sticks

It's May, do you have your sunscreen yet? Neutrogena's two new SPF Sticks help to make it easier to apply and keep it on hand.

I try to always have a stick like this as part of my SPF arsenal each year. They are perfect for nose, face, tops of hands . They can be stashed in bags without fear of leakage for all day touch ups ,anywhere you need a top up.

Beach Defense is SPF 50 + and is a bit more emollient feeling than Ultra Sheer. It has a suntan lotion scent . Ultra Sheer feels light on , is shine free  and has a fresh scent with SPF 70.

Both have Neutrogena's Helioplex broad spectrum sunscreen  and the SPF is chemical.

Ultra Sheer and Beach Defense Face and Body Sticks are 9.99 sugg. retail.

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Makeup

Neutrogena's newest foundation brings coverage,  skin helping ingredients and the SPF that the brand is known for.

Nourishing Long Wear Makeup has medium , buildable coverage. It leaves  a slightly dewy finish and gives skin a little glow with added brighteners. The nourishing comes from skintone enhancing ingredients like soy and vitamin C that they say will help even tone  with 4 weeks of use. This foundation feels good on skin,  and is lightly moisturizing but oil free. Glycerin  is in there but no heavy moisturizers are.

Natural Ivory 20

The SPF here is broad spectrum titanium dioxide 2.9 %  with an SPF of 20.

While it is called long wear, the wear on me was just ok. I have makeup melt though and my wear can vary wildly from most peoples. I got about 5 hours before it looked a little wilted. I do love the higher SPF here and the skin enhancing finish the foundation gives.

Available now for approx. $ 14.00

Melanoma Monday/ Neutrogena Sun Summit /Sun Safety

Today is Melanoma Monday , and  it's as good as time as any to talk SPF and sun. I've been meaning to anyway since  Spring is here and  the sun is out more . I try and explore this topic every year and will have several posts on new suncare in the next months.

You'll know if you've read past articles that I love SPFs with  Mexoryl  but they are harder to get in the US & more expensive when  you can find them. One of the good alternatives at the drugstore has always been Neutrogena with  their Helioplex formulas which keep getting better year after year. This year introduced Beach Defense which I talked about  here

Last month  Neutrogena held a sun summit for beauty editors  to discuss sun safety . There was a lot of good info there and I thought I'd share some of it. Obviously product wise it's geared towards Neutrogena but they also had on board a quartet of researchers/dermatologists including Dr. Doris Day, Clinical Assoc . Professor of Dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center and works at Lenox Hill Medical Center  and Drew Shindell, PhD,  who is a scientist at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies ,   with great advice no matter what brand you choose.

Many of you use Neutrogena SPFs and know that their Helioplex is a great  broad spectrum sunscreen.   Beach Defense, (you can read about that here, ) is a  new addition  and  as part of the summit we got some of their other SPF items to try. Some I had used before, others not and one discovery for me was Pure & Free Baby. It's got physical blockers of titanium and zinc ,  ones I like to use, and usually thought of as  the best way to go for max protection,  plus it feels like nothing on, with no white cast. The takeaway there is don't overlook something because it says "baby" on it.

The FDA also put in place, at last , new regulations on SPF labels.  The words “sun block,” “waterproof,” and “sweat-proof” are no longer allowed  on packaging labels and it's mandatory that the product contains both UVA and UVB protection.  When buying SPF , be sure to read the label well.  It's worth the time it takes.

A few takeaways from the Sun Summit :

-Although it is nearly 100 million miles away, the sun is responsible for 90% of the visible signs of aging.

- Surveys reveal more than 70% of Americans do not reapply sunscreen when they are outdoors for long periods of time.

-“The brightness of the sun has increased, while the ozone layer has been depleted,  "So climate change has led to warmer temperatures, which means Spring comes earlier and Fall lasts longer, and people are outside more.  Due to the combination of these environmental and lifestyle changes, current risk of UV is higher than it’s been ever before.”- Dr. Drew Shindell

Also -for any Neutrogena ® product with SPF purchased, the company will donate one to a family in need, from May 1 through July 31. ( Super idea I think).

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser

I love cleansers, it's one of my favorite product category. Odd maybe, or not, but that's fine with me.   I recently tried Neutrogena's newest- Ultra Gentle.

Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser is a foaming gel cleanser .  The foam here is light, you won't be awash in foam and it rinses clean.  It got my skin clean with no  tightness and left it feeling  soft. The cleanser is lightly scented.

Neutrogena says this patented formula is good  for sensitive skins and protects the moisture barrier of skin  while removing " 99 %  of excess oil, dirt and even makeup ".

I think  it will work for all skin types except the most oily. Right now my skin is normal to oily and  this works. When it's super oily in Summer I'll need something stronger.

If you want to try it without the $$ commitment, Neutrogena is giving away free samples and coupons , while they last.

Visit www.ultragentle.com and take the Ultra Gentle Cleanser Challenge.  If you are one of the first 5,000 people to sign up, you will receive a free sample .

I took the cute and fun challenge , and the above image  shows my results .

Neutrogena Oil Free Pink Grapefruit Face Wipes

One of my biggest peeves with face wipes is that the ones I've used, while nice, always seem to not be deep cleaning enough. And my face feels like there is residue left or feels likie it's had added moisture. Now for many people that's good no doubt. Not me.

Which is where Neutrogena Oil Free Pink Grapefruit for Acne Prone Skin Wipe comes in. I've heard some fellow bloggers talk about these but only just tried them myself. Shame on me for waiting as I love them. They get my skin clean, clean, I didn't even feel like I needed toner after and skipped it all together .  These have salycyclic acid to help beat oil and clean pores and they have a fabulous zippy grapefruit scent.

When summer arrives and my skin is in sweat and oil overload,  I know not pretty , but true, these will come in so handy.

If you have oilier or acne prone skin and have been looking for a wipe that works, these oldie but goodies might be for you.

Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen Spray

Is it time already to  talk big gun SPF  ? Well it is Spring Break season, Easter vacays will be coming and you know, summer too,  in a couple months depending on where you live.

If  you are headed to the beach  or somewhere super sunny , then you need SPF. Neutrogena has always been regarded as one of  the tops brands in this category and new this year is Beach Defense. It comes in sprays and lotions with SPF up to 70.

Remember too, that the new FDA rules for SPF finally began to go into effect in December. Sunscreens must now show exactly how long they are water resistant( none are waterproof)  and must pass a test to show that they protect across both UVA & UVB rays to be labeled " Broad Spectrum "

Beach Defense has Neutrogena's Helioplex formula which protects across UVA/UVB and is photostable, which is important as not all chemical based  sunscreens are.

What's new with Beach Defense is that this also is said to protect against elements like chlorine and salt in water.

The spray is very light and absorbs fast with a light , barely there scent.  A  nice touch is the twist cap. You turn to the right to  spray, left to close, meaning less chance of spills in the beach/boat/pool bag.
