Lauren Hutton for Mango

Mango clothing is using Lauren Hutton in their Fall ad campaigns. What an inspired choice and how great to see a beautiful woman over the age of 20 in there.( They are also using Alice Dellal so that fills the 20s quotient).

Ms. Hutton could teach us all, let alone the teen models a thing or two about sexiness and being naturally beautiful. She's still got "it" in spades.

The pic is one of the stills from the ads.

Carla Bruni scoops Vanity Fair cover

Well, she's taken on everyone else, right? Yes, Carla Bruni knocked the Supermodel reunion off the cover of Sept. Vanity Fair Style issue . Some of the VF Supermodels shots now inside are shown.

I am still trying to figure out all the gaga-ness over Carla. Yes she is beautiful, but I recall all her model/ rock star girlfriend heydays. You know breaking Eric Clapton's heart when she cheated on him with Mick Jagger, whose marriage she supposedly was the last straw for. Jerry not being so fond of her and Mick. Then they say she then dated Donald Trump. Well when one then lands a Prime Minister, I guess it is time to stop and stay. Thats super upworldly mobile my friends.

So lets address the stylish part. She is not Jackie O. Everyone tries to be, none will be. Furthermore, how could she not be stylish? She has long legs, high cheekbones, was a model for years , has unlimited funds and just decided to make Dior her wardrobe of choice. That would work for me. Hey, that would make anyone stylish.

I think I may be one of the only people not that impressed
with her UK tour clothes. Yes I loved the pillbox hat. But the grey thing was dowdy, sorry. Yes it was conservative, but incredibly boring .She could have at least worn a big brooch. Her navy blue State Dinner ballgown was equally boring. I hope if I get to State Dinner I can do a bit better than that.

Ok, she was worried about protocol, after hours of tutoring on it, and she needed to put every foot right, but it was still boring. Her safari inspired choices of late have been much better. For VF she is doing her best Lady of The Manor. It looks good, but ,umm, hasn't this been done a few times before? Like Angelina Jolie in 2005 inside the pages of VF?

Now- will I buy this issue? Yes. It's the style issue and one of the only magazines I don't subscribe too. Will you ?

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Manicure

I got a sample of nail polish from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics back at the Makeup Show. Finally got around to doing a mani with it.
The color is called Grandma and is a coral creme. I love the name as it reminds me of my grandmom, who loved to paint her nails. I don't think she wore lots of makeup, but I remember fondly staying at her house at the weekend and getting the nail polish out and doing our nails when I was little. She would approve of this color.

Obsesive Compulsive is geared to the professional and specializes in airbrush . The nail polish did pretty well. It lasted 5 days. I like longer wear, but I am hard on the manicures, so thats not too far off for me. China Glaze gives me 7 days sometimes but thats it. I used a top coat as well, although it's pretty shiny on it's own.
I used/liked 2 coats. One coat wasn't sheer but I think 2 really is needed at least with this color.

Their website is http://www.occmakeup.com/
Nail polish is 8.00

Blake Lively and The Sisterhood 2 girls at premiere

How beautiful the ladies from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 look at last night's premiere. Bravo for them, not often you see all the stars of a movie look this great. I can't decide who looks best, but I'm going with Alexis. Love the dress and shoes and her big blue eyes

Leighton Meester looks a little wind blown and beachy but still cute .

Weekend Fashion Brigade- Mario Bello, Cate and Maggie

This past weekend saw a few red carpet events. Maggie Gyllenhaal wore Gaultier couture to the Japan opening of The Dark Knight. Love the color.

Mario Bello looked nice in white at the new Mummy movie premiere( not feeling the black shoes though), and Cate Blanchett showed off those breastfeeding babies in a stunning and cleavage baring
LBD at the Helpmann awards in Australia. She wore super black Roger Vivier shoes that you can't see here.

Chanel Enthusiast Lipstick

Chanel Enthusiast lipstick is part of the Fall collection. An LE super red, described on the website as coral red, but to me it is a true red, but not a blue based one. Not much that is more elegant than a red Chanel lipstick especially this beauty with the engraved Chanel in it like all the Rouge Allures. This sells for 30.00 and would be right in place in your best evening bag.

Also new for fall, and part of the permanent line is Fantastic Plum. A medium deep plum, and so pretty, this would be great on deeper skin tones, or for a real goth look if you like. This one is Rouge Hydrabase and is 27.00.

LUSH gives you Porridge

Whew, the end of busy, bit stressful week. One reason the posts haven't been as up to par as I would like.

For today we have a new soap from LUSH. Most of their soaps sound lovely, but I have only been able to smell a few since until recently the nearest LUSH was 2 states away.

Porridge soap is out July 28th and smells like molasses. Nice for fall. It's a blend of oats, orange juice and sweet orange oil. It's a breakfast bar.

Those oats will be exfoliaters as well as good for skin issues.

Porridge is 5.95 for 1/4 lb.

Redken Headset 25 Hairspray- Simply the Best Hold

This is a review I've been meaning to do for awhile. These super hot, steamy days of floppy hair seems the time to finally write it.

Last September, my first time going to Fashion week in NY it was 95 degrees out. I have easy hair, thick and not frizzy or prone to falling ,but in that humid heat , the kind we are having now, well often it does. If my hair flops in the heat, you know it's bad.

Knowing I would be on the go all day plus the commute, I needed something to keep my hairstyle in place. My mom, who should be called the hair alchemist had this Redken Headset that she had bought and was unable to use ( too strong for her fine hair) and told me if I used this my hair would not move all day. It didn't. We sprayed my piecey parts and styled them a bit, and off I went. A miracle of a hairspray , thats all. Even harder holding than Sebatian Shaper Plus, which is great but softer by a bit.

Since then whenever I need all day hairspray this is what I reach for.

Now- this is a hard spray. It is a freezing spray. It is not an aerosol and will get crunchy on the hair if you overspray. It is not for fine, damaged hair really. If your hair can take it though, this stuff will not move. This winter I had another all day outing in the colder weather I used it for. I didn't brush it all out at night, so woke up the next day at my hotel with a still almost perfect style.

So, thanks mom for trying almost every hair product out there.

Redken Headset sells for around $13-15.00

New, New from Chanel, Guerlain, Bobbi Brown.

I will have a product review tomorrow. I know it's been a lot of just new release info lately, but so much has been coming in and I thought I should share whats new . To save time, I'm going to put much of it one post here to get you all up to speed.

Chanel- Cleansers & Toners- Yes, wonderful sounding Precision cleansers from Chanel. If the doesn't chic up the bathroom, what will? For 3 skin types:
Comfort - for dry skin
Balance- for normal to oilyPurity- for combo to oily.( this one is supposed to mattify skin. When I am finished with the great soap I am using, I will have to try this)

The products utilize Tulip Tree Extract & Concentrate( said to help trap pollutants), and a bio-technological ingredient, Bioglucane. They:

1. Trap pollutants to prevent skin damage from daily exposure to harmful environmental elements
2. Remove up to100% of impurities caused by harmful indoor and outdoor pollution
3. Protect the integrity of skin’s natural defense barriers, while respecting skin’s delicate balance

Each item is 45.00 and will be on counters in August.

Guerlain - Perusing the new goodies at Nordstrom.com I came across this lip set/palette Kiss Kiss Jeu de Dames. Guerlain's Fall colors are out and it seems with little fanfare. This is just gorgeous, as is most of the line.

The set contains a pencil holder, three metallic lip colors with their own sharpener, and a gloss. Three velvety shades: beige, pink and red. It is LE and $ 68.00

Bobbi Brown- For August the Metallics eyeshadows are returning in 17 shades, and in October we get Metallic Lip Color in 15 shades. It will be emollient and have light reflective pearls.

Clinique Fall 08 Modern Matte

Clinique is soon to launch the Fall 08 collection Modern Matte. Going forward in makeup matte is a buzz word that we'll keep hearing and seeing in lines. I am still on the fence about it's return as are many people.

Clinique's new collection brings 2 key new entries- Color Surge Stay Matte eyeshadow and High Impact Lipcolor SPF 15( non matte). I haven't tried the new lippie yet, but the info looks good. Long , creamy , non feathering wear with SPF 15 because even in winter you need some SPF. In other words, it's good to go on the ski slopes . There are long wearing polymers in this to hold color, peptides for fullness, and chemical and physical sunscreens .

The eyeshadow is pictured in Stone Violet. Wouldn't that look great with Clinique's Black Honey gel liner or Bobbi Brown's new Black Mauve one?

The lipstick is Plum Nude.

The line hits counters in August. The new Blushwear Cream sticks I previewed here are an LE part of this collection as is High Impact mascara and Defining Lip Liner.

High Impact Lipstick $ 14.00

Stay matte eyeshadow 17.50

Defining Lip Liner $ 14.00

Aloe Vera 80 Gel

After spending much of the weekend in the sun out at the pool, my skin is ready for some extra care. No sunburn, (I slather on my Ambre Solaire and Neutrogena continously), but I am getting some tan. Years ago, like many people, I discovered how good aloe vera gel is for sun parched skin. What you really need to know is that not all aloe gels/creams are created equal. Much of the drugstore commercial brands really don't have that much aloe in them.

I like to get natural products when I can and when I wanted aloe vera gel a couple years back, I hit the natural foods store. I picked up Aloe Vera 80 gel by Naturade. This is bare bones aloe, has a so- so smell but works incredibly well. It has 10% polysaccharides and what they call Active Aloe, and a short ingredient list.

I use this on arms, legs and even my face. What I love is that I can use this on my face and it never breaks me out, even on the nose and T zone where I never usually put any moisture. It is greaseless and not really sticky at all. Basically an all purpose moisturizer. Every time I pull it out, I wonder why I am not using this more often.

Aloe is of course great for the skin, holds in moisture , heals etc.

I had a hard time locating this brand on the internet, but I found some resources. There are, I am sure, other organic brands that have high active aloe content out there. Just read the label well.

Aloe Vera 80 can be found at amazon. com, and http://www.mothernature.com/, a great resource for all things natural. The price seems to be in the $ 7.00 range for a good size bottle.

Karl Lagerfeld new fragrances- Kapsule

Karl Lagerfeld with Coty is bringing us 3 new unisex scents late this year. They roll out in Paris( of course) first, then Germany, then eventually in November to Neiman Marcus here as an exclusive.

These sound not bad, and the bottle is interesting and inspired by KL's love of colored glass. I'm thinking I would like to try the Floriental one.

From: wwd
"Each scent falls in a different major fragrance family.

Light, includes notes of bitter orange, jasmine, nutmeg, clove and musk.

The Floriental scent has with ivy leaf, violet and black tea leaf notes.

Woody is made up of cedar, moss and plum notes.

The fragrance is to come as a 30-ml. eau de toilette spray for 37 euros, or $59 at current exchange, and a 75-ml. edt spray for 68 euros, or $108. Prices are for Europe."

September Magazine Cover Girls, Blake Lively et al

The list is ready of who graces the cover of most of The big September Fashion Mag issues:

Vogue- Keira Knightley
Cosmo- Blake Lively
Elle- Jessica Simpson
Glamour- Penelope Cruz
Teen Vogue- Vanessa Hudgens
Allure- Carrie Underwood
In Style- Uma Thurman
W- Kate Hudson
Vanity Fair- The original Supermodels-Stephanie Seymour, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford

A rather predictable list( except VF) , I think, but then the biggest issue of the year for most mags isn't the time that they would want to try something new. ( For instance, Simpson has the 2 of the best selling Elle covers to date, thats her March 07 one at left)
But wouldn't it be nice? Most of these cover choices I like ( Knightley, even if she is too skinny) , some not so much.

What do you think ?

Stila Rock the Vote Red Lipstick

Stila has a new red lipstick to encourage all women to get out and vote on Election Day. There is also a link where you can go to register if you have not done so ( and Please Do, it really does matter).

The long lasting pink-red hue guarantees you get noticed in more ways than one as you cast your ballot on November 4th.

Origins Deal

A nice deal from Origins, thru July 20th. If you need anything, buy it when free stuff and shipping are there too.

Origins Online (ELC)

New from Maybelline

Today it's time to go down the drugstore aisle. In these economic times everyone ( or almost) is looking for bargains and ways to save . I am mostly a high end makeup girl, but I do buy drugstore sometimes too. One of my favorite items of last year was Maybelline's SuperStay Silky foundation, a huge surprise to me. So I saw their new Age Rewind Cream Compact and even though I don't really need Age Rewinding yet, wanted to see how good it was. Throw in the new Mineral Lipsticks and Define a Lash Volume waterproof and you've got a whole look to try.

I liked well enough the first Define a Lash, but this new volume , waterproof version is far better for me. It does not run , period. I wore it for an eye doc visit that entailed many contact lens changes and it never budged. At the end of the day at 11PM, yes there was a smudge. Even though it says volume, I get more length from this then volume. It isn't as wet as the original and to do 2 coats you need to work fast.

The Mineral Lipstick is a winner too. Much better , again, than Moisture Extreme. This packs great creamy moisture( it has shea butter and vitamin E) with no preservatives or fragrances. The color I got is Raisin( pictured), which looks dark in the tube but goes on a nice medium sheer berry beige. Great for a fall nude lip.

Age Rewind Cream Compact is quite good. It's not my SuperStay, but it's nice, especially for those drier skinned ladies. Even with my oily skin it applied well, lasted well and didn't get too oily during the day. They don't actually use any oils in this . Instead there are polymers, silk powders and waxes. You can get light to full coverage with the 2 sided puff. One side goes soft, the other full. It makes you look very nice and at a great price point.

This week Rite Aid has all Maybelline for 40 % off, and Kmart has lip and foundation products buy 1 get 1 free. So a good time to try something new and save money.

Nix'ie Cosmetics

At the Makeup Show back in May I saw Nix'ie cosmetics. I fell in love right off with the Large Fan Brush . The whole line looked good, so I tried some more products. Nix'ie is a professional line but also available to and usable by anyone who loves makeup.( and they are cruelty free)

They have a large amount of products available and the Mineral eyeshadow shades number 200.
I tried out the Blush trio, Tinted Lip Balms, and Even Skin Mousse foundation. I liked everything a lot.

The blush trio (Brilliant , shown above)was really pretty and very pigmented. It has tons of shimmer and seems like it might be sheer, but it is not . There's a lot of pigment there. It's a very soft, silky texture due to oils in the formula. This makes it great at blending, but if you have super oily skin, it may be iffy. I loved the pinks here, which are not colors I usually go right for. These really brightened me up.
They have their own tinted lip balms, which yes I loved. ( I said yesterday that I would have another to talk about today and here it is) These are sheer-ish but again pack a lot of pigment. You get almost full color, and super moisture . I have it in Fruit Punch ( also shown above) and it is a full on fuschia.

The Even Skin Mousse foundation was one that intriqued me most. Been awhile since I have seen a mousse foundation in a bottle. This doesn't come out as a total mousse but sort of. On skin it's a nice semi matte that has lasted fairly well despite the intense heat here. The ingredients lists a touch of oil at the bottom of the list so, I think come cooler weather this will be even better for me. I like the finish a lot and the coverage is medium. It's more matte than I thought it would be and thats good. There is a huge amount of shades, so there has to be one for any skintone.

It's always fun finding new brands and products, something I need to do more of, so I'm glad I ran into Nix'ie.

Nix'ie is available at http://www.nixiecosmetics.com/ and a few salons/boutiques throughout the US. List is on the site.
They also have listed organic body lotions, which I think will be next to try.

Blush trio $ 27.00
Lip Balm $ 14.00
Even Skin Foundation $ 29.00

Lancome Maharani Jewels Fall 08

Welcome to my Jewels of India.

Lancome's fall colors are Maharani jewels with the oh so pretty Elephant bronzer compact. I think every blogger so far has fallen madly for this. It was hard to actually use it, but I wanted to let you know what the color really was like. First off the shimmer is an overspray. The actual bronzer has just a touch of shimmer and is a medium shade. Not too dark . I started using it a blush but then thought it wasn't dark enough so went with the all over bronzer look. It was nice and pretty natural when applied lightly. The orange part of the elephant is gorgeous and the pink is light.

(PS mine took a fall somewhere , so thats why there are chunks out of it.) The price is $36.50 which I think is great. So many LE palettes are priced much higher. This is an affordable luxury and a useful one too. Who doesn't want to maintain some color into fall?

To complement the Indian theme I added in my bracelets from India. My dearest friend's hubby is from there and likes to shop, has great taste in jewelry and doesn't mind trucking things home for me. The gold one is just that, solid 23 kt gold. Widely available there and much less expensive, at least until the recent gold hike. The other two are gold plated with seed pearls and I am told cost about 20.00 US for both. Now thats a bargain. I love these and for summer , they are a wear all the time piece.

So... if you or anyone you know is headed to India, get them to shop for you too.

Lancome has opened up in India this year which is part of the reason for the new color.

The collection also has:
Maharani Juicy Tubes -
Mango Mystere , Guava Enchantment ,and Autumn Jasmine. Suggested Retail Price: $18.00

Le Crayon Khôl Kajal -
India Ink , Amber Night ,Smoky Henna. Suggested Retail Price: $23.50

Maharani Color Design Eye Shadow Quads -
Lotus Splendor palette:with its earthy brown, peach and copper eye shadows.
Secrets of Benghal palette: features soft pink, dusty mauve, eggplant and highlighting shadows. Suggested Retail Price: $40.00

All items are on counters now and at http://www.lancome-usa.com/

You can do a search for sites selling Indian bracelets as well. I have seen some, but not order from any, so can't really recommend one.
