After spending a lot of time by the pool on Summer weekends , come Fall I start to mimimize any damage I might have done , plus add a little more moisture in as the temps cool off.
After good success with Murad's City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturizer
I have made their Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream & NEW coordinating Eye Serum my nightly skincare routine for the past couple weeks.
The Night Cream is moisturizing but not that heavy, despite having shea butter as the 2nd ingredient, so it's great for my combo/normal skin. It's very creamy, melts into skin in fast and after a few uses, my skin was looking a bit brighter and smoother.
The Eye Serum is also creamy, more a gel/cream and it too , melts in quickly leaving the eye area feeling very hydrated while fighting those crows feet and circles. It's kept my eyes feeling moisturized well into morning and there are AMs I don't need to use additional eye cream. I haven't noticed too much line reduction yet, that does take time, unfortunately but the area is looking brighter and firmer.
Both the Night Cream and Eye Serum have Retinol Tri Active Technology which is both time released and fast acting to fight lines and wrinkles along with red algae extract for firming in the cream( peptides) and marine kep extract for eyes. Retinol is still the gold standard for line fighting and I am loving this duo.
Both come in containers that keep light out, preserving the product's purity.
Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream is $ 82
Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum is $ 85
Earlier this year Kiehl's brought out this Butterstick Lip Treament Duo with
100% of net profits benefiting Bright Pink and breast cancer education programs.
I used mine all Spring and Summer, appreciating the SPF 25 and they'll be perfect for chilly temps too. Now the set is back .
In the box you get one each of Simply Rose and Untinted. The balms have moisturizers like coconut (fair trade) , sunflower seed and sweet almond oils, shea and cocoa butters. They feel great on lips with plenty of moisture and have just a slight sheen . Simply Rose has a good bit of tint, it's more than barely there and easily works as a stand along lip color. Nice for when you need to be out the door fast or it's 20 degrees out and lipstick just won't cut it.
Think gift giving here too. Not only can you gift the set, but you can also break them up and give or share one and keep one for yourself, or divvy them between friends and family. Each stick is individually boxed with the larger box.
Each stick is good sized coming in at .014 oz or 4.0 grams.
Kiehl's Butterstick Lip Treament Duo is $ 32 at Kiehls.com , and wherever Kiehl's is sold.
I'm all in when it cone to mattifying pore reducing primers. My pores are huge and my nose and chin very oily. Much of my morning routine is spent trying to minimize them.
Peter Thomas Roth's new Skin To Die For Mattifying Primer really gets the job done and is one of the best I've used. It has a slight, sheer tint and smoothes right into skin and over pores with a blurring effect making it a bit of a multitasker. There's a definite difference in before and after use. The primer also kept oil well in check through the morning. A light touch of powder was needed at lunchtime, which is generally a must for me no matter what I use. But a very light bit of was all I needed, less than usual.
The formula uses the brand's Evermat to help keep oil at bay and reduce pores along with Disa-Pore 20. It's very light on skin, not dry and can be used alone if you prefer no makeup or under your foundation/powder.
This would work for all but dry skins I think. Oily obviously, but normal to slightly dry also, as it's blurring and filling applies to more than pores.
Peter Thomas Roth Skin To Die For No Filter Mattifying Primer is $ 28 at Ulta, Sephora , Macys and more.
Shiseido continues their annual BCA month tradition partnering with Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) to support their charitable arm Cancer and Careers where the brand will donate $ 5 for every Rouge Rouge Lipstick sold in three shades sold in the month of October , both online and in stores.
I am a big fan of the Rouge Rouge lipstick formula, it's creamy with a satin finish that always looks good. There are 3 shades available for the donation campaign this year and two are new.
You have your pick of Peruvian Pink ( new) , Primrose Sun ( new) and Murrey.
You can check out my full review/ look at the lipsticks here . I have several shades.
Shiseido Rouge Rouge can be purchased at select stores and online at www.shiseido.com for $28 each.
Leave it to IT to come out with a Micellar that's more than a Micellar. Nothing basic for this brand.
Their new Miracle Water is a cleansing micellar but also contains their Secret Sauce™ Fermented Complex, which is a combination of 7 penetration-enhancing fermented ingredients. These help skin absorb moisturizers and serums better . There are peptides, hydrolyzed collagen, rose, aloe, rice, chamomile, green tea water, licorice root and vitamin C along with their Drops of Light Technology™ Concentrate for brightening and glow.
You can use it as a cleanser or after cleanser , leaving it on your face like an essence . That's what I've been doing. A swipe all over after cleansing. It not only gets any remaining makeup or grime but adds just enough moisture to my skin. Sometimes I add serum over it, sometimes not.
It feels light and refreshing on skin and especially makes an easy wake up and get ready fast morning product. Who can't use a little time saving that's also good for skin?
How cool is this? NEST has a new diffuser for holiday that has no liquid. If you're worried about spills or simply don't like the concept, you can have the fab fragrances the brand does for Holiday with little muss or fuss.
You get a small gold metal vessel with open front and sides so air flows freely. Then you add the sticks. Each scented stick is supposed to last 30 days and 2 sticks is enough for a smaller room , 3 larger, etc. You get 5 in each set.
The sticks ( which are trademarked) are custom made of paper , infused with fragrance oil and according to the brand, conditioned with a patented technology. The sticks have a strong fragrance out of the package and good throw.
I was just telling my buddy Kathy at MinxEats about this. She mentioned loving NEST's Holiday fragrance, her favorite of the season, but in her office at work she can't burn candles and is not a fan of liquid ones. This could be perfect.
NEST's Liquidless Diffuser comes in two holiday scents- Holiday and Birchwood Pine along with some of their other non seasonal scents . I have Birchwood Pine and it is a true white pine, balsam, woodsy fragrance that will be great all Winter, not just at Christmas.
NEST Liquidless Diffuser is $ 60 and available at NESTfragrances.com , Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomies, Neimans and Blue Mercury.
For more NEST Holiday, see my earlier post on gift sets here .
It may be Fall on the calendar but it's still 90 degrees here. And that means sun . We all know, too, that sun protection is needed all year.
An easy way to get it is with a multi use product , not to mention the time saving properties as well.
Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart SPF 50 Hydrating Shield is a multi tasker that gets a lot done. The Prevage line packs some serious anti aging skincare ingredients and this is no different.
First off , it's moisturizing but lightweight on. More than my oily skin needs right now, but normal to dry skins should love it. ( and you can layer other moisturizers underneath if you are more dry). It has a barely there tint, that blends in easily and really was almost undetectable on me. Once on, skin looks healthy, smoothed and a little perfected thanks to optical diffusers. The SPF is physical with 100 % micronized titanium dioxide 6.2% and zinc oxide 5.6% .
Ingredients include Idebenone, seen in all the Prevage line, green tea , ferulic acid and other antioxidants to combat pollution
Bottega Veneta Eau De Velours is the brand's Autumn release and it's very much a scent that embraces the chill in the air . It's cozy, rich , elegant and well crafted.
Eau De Velours , which is an EDP , begins boldly with deep, dusky rose and pink peppercorn. The rose here is not soft, but lush and mature mixing with the other notes well . This is not simply a "rose" fragrance. Plum adds some non sweet fruit while spices and a touch of iris dance around. This retains the slight smokiness of the patchouli and leather from original Bottega Veneta Eau De Parfum, while being different, which gives the fragrance such a rich , bury your face in the velvet it's named for, feel.
By the drydown, surprisingly , this has settled closer to the skin than I expected. That said, it has plenty of sillage and lasts long. This is a scent that will stand up to sweaters, coats and scarves leaving them with a lingering scent trail.
It definitely makes a great evening scent , it's dark , dry and sophisticated. I always say where what you want, when you want but it would be a bolder daytime choice.
Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours is $155 (2.5oz), $118 (1.7oz) and $89(1.0
Summer means sun and swimming in the pool so my hair always needs some extra help . It gets a little drier at the mid and ends plus I heat style most of the time-at least partway with a hot dryer. And hey, it's hitting 90 here so I plan to be in the pool again this weekend. I'm not done with it yet.
Maui Moisture is a shamp/cond combo that uses aloe and bamboo fibers for strengthening and thickening. Now I don't really need thickness but this only added a little volume. A nice boost but not lots. Where it worked best for me was adding moisture and the repairing ingredients. My hair was soft, conditioned, mostly smooth ( half air drying you have to end up with a little pouf ) and shiny. It 's nicely hydrating but not heavy or super conditioning. For my normal to dry hair , it's just right. And after a few uses I've noticed my dry areas are much better and I need less leave in.
Ingredients include aloe juice( as the first ingredient), coconut water, neem and coconut oils and chamomile extract. It is also has no sulfates, parabens, silicone, sls or mineral oil and is vegan.
Maui Moisture Thicken & Restore Shampoo and Conditioner are available at drugstores and discounts stores along with Ulta . Retail is approx. $ 8.99 each.
NEST makes top shelf candles and home fragrances. They smell true to their scent descriptions and have strong quality fragrance that lasts. You can scent a small room without even lighting the candles.
Holiday brings some of their best launches, but then I simply love all things holiday so I might be biased. But let's face it, most of us all love seasonal candles at Christmas and we also love to find and give great gifts.
There are three scents this year, their beloved Holiday, with spices like cinnamon and cloves with pine , Birchwood Pine, a rich evergreen pine , fir and balsam blend and NEW Sugar Cookie, a delicious enough to eat warm , sweet vanilla and caramel laced cookies .
I've got two of the many gift sets from the brand here. The Festive Petite Candle Trio houses three 4.5 oz candles in a festive red and gold box. You get one each of Holiday, Birchwood Pine and Sugar Cookie. ( $ 64)
The Holiday Scented Candle & Reed Diffuser Set set houses a 8.1 oz classic size Holiday scented candle and a large 5.9 oz liquid reed diffuser . This one comes in a red flocked velvet box. Candle burn time is 50-60 hours and the diffuser lasts approx. 90 days. ($ 72).
I like that the color scheme , boxes and glassware are all festive but not too boldly Christmas . They are elegant and whether you or your giftee likes a lot of Christmas decor or keeps it simple, they work. Plus they can be used and displayed all through Winter.
NEST is available at Nordstrom, Bloomies, Saks, Neimans and Blue Mercury.
