Jil Sander Scent 79 Woman & Man

The Jil Sander perfumes are generally favorites of mine. I've used Sun ( vanilla & berry) for years and more recently Style( woods & patchouli).

One of the newest is Jil Sander Scent 79. There is a version for men and women and both are good.

The woman's is very much a chypre style perfume. Chypre's are hard to come by these days and not easily well done. This one seems to hit the mark pretty well. It has a lot of the oakmoss we think of with a chypre and a little leather in the drydown. It's aldehydic, but not too much so. Within all that there are plenty of floral notes to make it a bit more feminine and a lot of vetiver.

It's a bit of an old fashioned type scent but done in a more modern way. No grandma's powder here. This is strong but elegant . If you are looking for a well done perfume that doesn't scream flowers or fruit, this is one to try.

The company describes the perfume as: "a sophisticated and feminine fragrance, crafted like haute couture clothing. This chypre amber floral is composed of precious ingredients. The head notes bloom with the intense luminosity of an aldehyde accord. These radiant notes are upheld by sparkling cranberries, set over the velvety caress of peach leaves. The sunny impact then gives way to a bouquet with elegant femininity, swirling together delicate May rose, scintillating jasmine and refined Iris. As the fragrance becomes one with the skin, the base notes release a refined sensuality with the softness of white leathers, a mixture of caramelized wood and a blend of powdery musks, united by the fullness of vetiver. "

The Jil Sander line is always interesting and only a little commercial. They manage to be beautiful but just a bit different than whats already there.

Scent 79 for men is a beauty. Created by top perfumer Mark Buxton, it's all leather and smells like the inside of a new car with a bit of spices( clary sage, frankincense) thrown in .Very masculine and dry, it went over very well with the men I had try it. One of the nicer men's scents I've tried this year so far.

Both scents come in very sculptural bottles that Brancusi would have loved. Two cubes on top of each other and contained in a large decorative box that you want to keep.

Jil Sander Scent 79 Woman(EDP) is $ 110.00 for 4.2 oz
Jil Sander Scent 79 Men ( EDP)is $ 90.00 for 4.2 oz
